Centennial Homecoming Approaches

Valdosta State University will celebrate its Centennial Homecoming and the 25th Anniversary of its football team beginning Thursday, October 5 continuing through Saturday night October 7 with a variety of activities. This year's Homecoming will feature something for students, alumni, and the VSU community to enjoy.

Celebrations will officially begin on the evening of October 5 with a pep rally to support the Blazers as they prepare for their game against the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas. The pep rally will be held in the Old Gym beginning at 7 p.m.

The annual Alumni Golf Tournament will be held Friday October 7 at the Valdosta Country Club. Registration for this event will begin at 10:30 a.m. Registration fee is $60 per person and includes greens fee, cart, prizes, and lunch. Participants may sign-up as individuals or foursomes by calling the Office of Alumni Relations at 229-333-5797.

The Annual Homecoming Parade will be held on North Patterson Street beginning at 6 p.m. The parade route begins at Woodrow Wilson Drive and ends at Brookwood Place.

This year's Distinguished Alumnus will be presented at the Alumni Association Annual Dinner at the Valdosta Country Club at 7:30 p.m. The annual meeting of the Alumni Association will begin with elections with dinner to follow. Reservations are required to attend this event. Registrations can be made by mail or by phone at 229-333-5797 or 800-464-3638. Cost for this event is $27 per person.

Saturday, October 7, offers a full day of events beginning with the annual Alumni Tailgate party at the University Center from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. This is free to alumni but reservations are required. The Alumni tailgate party had to be cancelled last year due to the renovation of the University Center. This year the event is back on track with an indoor picnic.

The Blazers football team will face Southern Arkansas at 1p.m. It will mark the 25th Anniversary of VSU football. There will be a special Centennial Halftime show to commemorate VSU's 100th birthday. Tickets can be purchased by calling the VSU Athletic Department or the VSU Alumni Association.

The VSU Theatre will present The Crucible by Arthur Miller in the Sawyer Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Cost for this event is $8/adults, $7/senior, $6/child or non-VSU Student. For reservations and information for this event call the Box office at 229-333-5973.
