News from beyond the Asteroids comes to VSU

Valdosta State University's planetarium will present its first public show of the 2006-2007 year with two presentations of "News from beyond the Asteroids" on September 1, at 8 and 9 p.m. in the planetarium located in Nevins Hall.

Dr. Kenneth Rumstay, director of the Planetarium and Observatory will update the audience on recent events in our solar system. With hurricane season currently in full swing the lecture will focus on the planet Jupiter, and its ravaging storms. Other topics will include Saturn and the recent discovery of the icy geysers on its eighth moon Enceladus; the bluish ring that encircles Neptune, and lastly Pluto losing its status as the ninth planet in our solar system will be discussed.

If weather permits the observatory atop Nevins Hall will be open to allow guests to see for themselves the wonders of our solar system. Admission is free of charge, however seating for each show is limited to 47. Limited parking is also available in front of Nevins Hall.

Tickets can be reserved in advance by calling the Department of Physics, Astronomy, and Geosciences at 229-333-5752.
