Valdosta State University celebrates the renovation of theUniversity Center

Valdosta State University will celebrate the renovation of the University Center--North at an open house for all students, faculty, and staff on Wednesday, January 11, 2006, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The $900,000 renovation, which features a new contemporary look, includes a new banquet room, an executive dining room, and two additional conference rooms. The renovations were designed by architect Santiago Iturralde of Insilico Design Studio, LLC, and completed by S.C. Barker Construction Company. Ivan Allen was contracted for furnishings and design.

To provide more space for educational conference purposes, many areas were relocated. For example, the game room that was located in the University Center has been moved to the University Union. Study rooms have also been removed while open lounges off of the lobby have been added. The ATM and the computer lab, which includes ten computers, a copier, and access to a printer, have been relocated to the updated food court. The University Center and food court display the artwork of VSU students.

Along with the renovation, Susanna Dover has been hired as the operations manager at the University CenterNorth. Dover, with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, is responsible for daily operation of the building, training and overseeing 16 student assistants with set-ups for events.

The University Center is open seven days a week. Rooms may be reserved for educational purposes only by contacting Event Services at 333-5998.
