Chill with the champs

Valdosta State University's Office of Special Events will hold its annual VSU Chili Cook Off, on Saturday, November 5, 2005, at 11 a.m., on the E. Jane Street median near Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

This year's event, Chillin' with the Champs, will be followed-up with Blazer football at 1 p.m., where the 2004 NCAA Division II National Champions will face West Georgia. The event is expected to draw both chili enthusiasts as well as spectators wanting to spice up before the last Blazer home game.

Chili Cook Off participants are required to prepare two gallons of their favorite chili on site, using self-provided gas cookers or charcoal grills and their own cooking utensils and supplies. Cooking may begin no earlier than 7 a.m., and all chili must be ready for judging at 11 a.m.

Cash prizes of $300 will be awarded for first place, and $200 and $100 respectively for second and third place. Additional prizes will be awarded for best costume, best presentation, and best tent.

Participants should register by October 28 for $25 or can register late for $35 by 5 p.m. on November 4. To register and for a complete list of rules, call the Office of Special Events at 333-7446 or visit www.valdosta.edu/specialevents .
