Valdosta State University participates in alcohol awareness
Valdosta State University will join thousands of universities
across the country for the National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness
Week, October 17-21, with its 2005 theme: "I choose." VSU will help
spread the message that students "choose" to make reasonable and
responsible decisions when it comes to the consumption of
alcohol.
Though the focus on responsible alcohol consumption will last the
entire week, the main activities will be held on Wednesday, October
19 and Thursday, October 20.
Wednesday, October 19, Palms Quad from 6-8 p.m.
Greek Life members will be participating in "Dead Day," calling
attention to the devastation on our highways caused by driving
under the influence of alcohol. Members will be serving
"mocktails," in friendly chapter competition, with the best chapter
winning a cookie cake.
Wednesday, October 19, Lowndes Hall, 7 p.m.
Mark Williams, coordinator for the Office of Alcohol & Other
Drug Education at VSU, will speak on the responsibilities of
alcohol consumption.
Thursday, October 20, Palms Quad, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The annual Alcohol Awareness Fair will feature free food, music
provided by a D.J., a "D.U. eyes" cone course, a DUI simulation,
door prizes and give-aways. Free HIV screening will also be
provided. Campus and community agencies will provide information
regarding the awareness and prevention of alcohol abuse as well as
referral resources and positive, healthy lifestyle
alternatives.
Thursday, October 20, Ashley Hall Rotunda, 7:30 p.m.
The Farber Medical Center personnel will present "Sex in the Dark,"
a candid discussion about sexual health and sexually transmitted
diseases. There will also be an opportunity for students to receive
answers to anonymous questions.
