July 28 Special Note: Main VSU Campus to be closed to mostautomobile traffic for Pedestrian Mall-Nevins Parking projects

July 28 Special Note: Valdosta State University's Main Campus will soon be permanently closed to through automobile traffic as contractors prepare to begin work on the new Pedestrian Mall and Nevins Building Parking Lot. An exact date for closure has not been determined. When the word is given an announcement will be made and all cars will need to be removed from the Nevins and West Hall Parking Lots. Contractors will begin to install fencing around construction areas and that effort is expected to take at least a couple of weeks. Once work begins, it is anticipated that there will be considerable noise and some disruptions. Efforts are being taken to reduce any potential logistical hardships for the campus community and visitors, including parking and construction noise factors.

Officials say the Nevins Parking Lot project is expected to be completed in about 120 days and construction on the overall Pedestrian Mall along Blazer Boulevard will take up to 180 days. The large number of campus construction sites are being identified with "Points of Progress" signs to showcase the dramatic changes taking place on campus.

Questions about the various construction projects may be sent to pointsofprogress@valdosta.edu
