VSU College Bowl Team Excels at Regional Competition

Valdosta State University's College Bowl Team finished in second place at the Area Six Regional College Bowl Competition in Tampa, Fla. on Feb. 18 and 19.

The team competed against 10 other college and university bowl teams. The region consists of schools from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi.

VSU's team lineup consists of four students: Mikey Alday, the team's captain and junior secondary education and history major, Mitch Alday, junior English major, Nick Pumphrey, senior history and religion major, and David Dickey, junior history major. These students won the campus tournament and went on to contend at the regional level.

?Knocking the University of Florida out of the playoffs, to capture the second position, was definitely the highlight of the competition,? said John T. Wright, Student Life recreation coordinator and team advisor. ?Especially since their team has won the tournament nine times out of its 10 year existence.?

VSU's team has a chance of moving on to the National Tournament in Seattle through a wildcard slot drawing. Fingers are crossed as the team anxiously waits to hear about their future competition hopes later this week.
