VSU Students Receive Nationally-certified Credentials
Five Valdosta State University students earned Certified Student
Leader credentials during the National Conference on Student
Leadership (NCSL) in November 2004.
Students receiving the honor include: Jason Adams, junior political
science major from Cordele, Ga., Sal Ahmad, sophomore chemistry
major from Valdosta, Ga., Gala Jackson, junior organizational
communication major from Fayetteville, Ga., C.J. Mock, sophomore
biology major from Valdosta, Ga., and Ashley Williamson, sophomore
public relations major from Suwanee, Ga.
The students took an exam at the conference assessing their
necessary skills for effective leadership of student organizations.
This included running effective meetings, resolving conflicts,
creating an inclusive and diverse environment, and launching
successful publicity and promotional campaigns.
?I am very proud of the way our students represented Valdosta State
University,? said Brenda Beasley, Coordinator of Orientation and
Leadership Programs. ?Students from all over the country were at
the conference and our students accomplished a great deal among
them.?
There were 215 students trying to earn the student leader
credentials. To attain this goal, they had to score highly on a
leadership skills examination.
Since 1978, NCSL has helped student leaders enhance their
leadership and organizational management skills, so they can have a
positive impact on their respective campuses. The conference is one
of several higher education-related training resources offered by
Magna Publications, Inc., a communications company based in
Madison, Wis.
