VSU Continuing Education Increases Personal Enrichment CourseOfferings
Valdosta State University Continuing Education has increased
non-credit Personal Enrichment course offerings this spring
semester to better meet the needs of Valdosta area
individuals.
?For the past few years we have been concentrating heavily on
professional development classes,? said Suzanne Ewing, program
coordinator for personal enrichment classes. ?We have been
receiving lots of requests for classes in the arts, languages, and
other areas that have to do with personal enrichment rather than
occupational success.? More classes are being offered in response
to the requests.
The most requested class this Spring is Ballroom Dancing, which
meets each Tuesday night for 2 hours. Taught by David Wiza,
students of various ages learn dances such as the Swing, Shag,
Foxtrot, and Waltz.
?I think it's fantastic! We?ve learned so much,? says Ann Walker, a
Valdosta resident. ?I have always wanted to learn ballroom dancing.
I hope to get married again, and I want to make my first dance a
waltz.?
Other upcoming classes include Portrait Drawing, Basic Beaded
Jewelry, Prismacolor Pictures (colored pencil), Instant Guitar,
Conversational Spanish, Seeing Through a Camera (photography), and
Dog Obedience 101. All of these classes are open to the public on a
first-come, first-serve basis. A complete schedule can be obtained
by calling the Continuing Education office at 245-6484, or by
visiting their web site at www.valdosta.edu/conted
.
?There is more to life than work,? says Ewing. ?We hope to help
students develop skills and talents in their personal lives as well
as their professional lives.?
