VSU Cheerleaders Bring Home 2nd Place Trophy at NCA Nationals

Valdosta State University's cheerleaders took 2nd place honors for Division 2 small co-ed in the National Cheerleader Association (NCA) College National Cheer Competition in Daytona Beach, FL, April 1 and 2. The squad performed Thursday in the preliminary competition, which was held in the Ocean Front Center, and finished prelims with the 2nd highest score in their division. They improved upon their score during Friday's finals in the Bandshell, but fell just short of winning the national championship for their division, finishing .14 of a point behind the University of Central Oklahoma.

Participating squads perform routines of just less than 3 minutes that are packed with tumbling, dancing, cheering, partner stunts and pyramids. Squads are evaluated and judged upon their creativity, execution and degree of difficulty.

Highlights from NCA finals will be televised Wednesday, April 28, at 3 p.m., on Fox Sports TV.
