VSU's Eighth Annual African American Studies Lecture Series BeginsFebruary 5

Valdosta State University's eighth annual African American Studies Lecture Series begins Thursday, February 5 with the overall theme ?Lest We Forget: Sheroes and Heroes of Our African American Past.? The lectures are all open to the public. The first of the four presentations will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Biology/Chemistry Building Auditorium when Pin Point Theater Presents ?1001 Black Inventions.?

Lecture number two, which takes place on Thursday, February 19 at the same time and location, is entitled, ?African American Art: Ordering the Universe.? Margo Candelario is the Guest Lecturer and Feature Artist. VSU art majors and guests will also participate.

Lecture three will take place in VSU's Whitehead Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 26. It is entitled, ?From Chains to Change: A Musical Celebration of African American Culture.?

The fourth and final lecture of the series, which is part of the celebration of Women's History Month, takes place on Thursday, March 18 at 8:00 p.m. in the Biology Biology/Chemistry Building Auditorium. It is entitled ?Rosa Parks: Sitting Down So That Others May Stand Up? (Joanna Maddox's One Woman Show).

The lecture presentations are free and free parking is provided in the Georgia Avenue Parking Lot and the Oak Street Parking Lot. The lectures are supported by the Office of the President, Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, College of the Arts, College of Arts and Sciences, Division of Student Affairs, Equal Opportunity Programs and Multicultural Affairs, the Office of Business and Finance and the Valdosta Community.
