University students help school age children with computer skills
The Valdosta State University chapter of Students In Free
Enterprise (SIFE) are helping school age children in the Ora Lee
West housing project with their homework and instructing them on
the basic functions of the computer and how to use the
Internet.
The program helps students gain confidence in the value of their
work and their ability to use technology. Each class is held on
Tuesday and Wednesday night from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Ora Lee
West community building, located on Ann Street. The classes will
continue until Nov. 13 and then resume in January.
VSU's SIFE team consists of more than 110 students, who work on a
local, national and international level to unite schools,
businesses and communities to spread the knowledge of free
enterprise.
Last year VSU's SIFE team was named third runner-up in the
RadioShack SIFE National Competition, in the four-year division, at
the 2002 SIFE USA National Exposition, in Kansas City, Mo.
