VSU appoints new chief planning officer

President Ronald M. Zaccari announces the appointment of Dr. Marsha Krotseng as Valdosta State University's new chief planning officer effective Sept. 30.

In the newly created position, Krotseng will direct, manage and coordinate the strategic planning process for the university and serve as a member of the president's cabinet. She will also be responsible for the University Planning Council, a group composed of faculty, staff, students and members of the administration charged with assessing the progress and maintaining current and analytical documentation of each of the eight goals in the strategic plan.

?The University's enthusiasm and strong commitment to strategic planning are clearly evident in the goals that have been established,? Krotseng said. ?I can?t think of a more rewarding experience than to work with the VSU community as this strategic plan takes shape and then takes flight. This is truly a unique opportunity.?

?Dr. Krotseng brings a wealth of experience and talent to her new appointment,? Zaccari said. ?She has a proven record of accomplishments in strategic planning and research, and is highly focused on serving as an integral part of VSU's governance system.?

?With President Zaccari's skillful leadership and a sound strategic plan, VSU is poised to achieve even greater heights,? Krotseng said. ?I am tremendously excited about joining the university at this important time in its history and look forward to working with the President and the entire campus as the plan for VSU's future unfolds.?

Krotseng currently serves as vice provost and executive assistant to the president at West Liberty State College, in West Liberty, W. Va. During her tenure she was responsible for directing the strategic planning process and monitoring the implementation of the strategic plan to effect significant change at the college. She also was a member of the budget review committee and served as a liaison to the West Liberty State College Board of Governors and as the governmental relations coordinator, responsible for initiating and maintaining college contacts with federal and state legislators.

In addition, she was the college's liaison to the Higher Education Policy Commission in Charleston, W. Va., where she worked with the Chancellor and staff in preparing and monitoring the institution's Compact, a state-mandated strategic planning and accountability document.

Krotseng is a member of the editorial board for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's International Journal of Educational Advancement. She served on the board of directors and as president and CEO for the Association for Institutional Research and on the board of directors for the Association for the Study of Higher Education.

Krotseng earned a bachelor's degree in Spanish (Phi Beta Kappa), a master's in educational administration and a doctorate in higher education from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va. Before going to West Liberty State College in 1999, she served as associate provost at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio and director of Research and Information Systems for the State College and University Systems of West Virginia.
