VSU to participate in flag ceremony honoring victims of Sept. 11

A specially designed flag is traveling across the state of Georgia as part of a flag relay honoring Todd Beamer and others who helped to subdue terrorists aboard United Flight 93, on Sept. 11, 2001.

Valdosta State University will hold a brief flag raising ceremony on Monday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. in front of West Hall. The flag is scheduled to fly for four to five days at each of the 34 University System of Georgia institutions.

VSU will fly the flag until May 16, and then it will be delivered to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton.

The flag is inscribed with the words ?Let's Roll? which were the last words Beamer said to a GTE operator before he and others took action against the terrorists.

Albany State University and the Albany Safe Communities are sponsoring the flag relay, scheduled to conclude around Sept. 11, 2002. The flag will then be presented to Beamer's family.
