'Date Smart Day' looks at relationship issues

Valdosta State University will sponsor Date Smart Day, Monday, April 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Palms Quad. The purpose of the event is to educate men and women on the subject of relationships.

?We believe that through education about the seriousness of issues such as date rape, violence in relationships and communication skills, we can all become empowered to make choices that are the foundation for creating healthy lives,? said Faye Altman, VSU counselor.

Students are encouraged to attend and receive information from campus and community organizations including Student Health Services, Women's Studies, Teen Plus, Children Advocacy Center and the Haven. The event will also feature games, food and beverages.

A panel presentation and discussion, with rape victims and their families, will be held at 7:30 p.m., in the Powell Hall Auditorium.

This event is open to the public free of charge. For more information, contact VSU's Counseling Center at 229-333-5940.
