College of Nursing obtains ambulance

An ambulance recently donated to Valdosta State University's College of Nursing, by Rural Metro, has been modified and repainted and is in use by the nursing department's students and faculty, according to Dr. MaryAnn Reichenbach, Dean of the College of Nursing.

The ambulance will be used for various community service projects, such as blood pressure screenings, nutrition counseling, and activities that promote general wellness. "It is big enough that we can do a certain amount of work inside it. We'll be able to take one person at a time inside for [testing]. We could, if pushed, do a physical exam," Reichenbach said.

According to Susan Closson, assistant professor of nursing, the ambulance will provide VSU nursing students with the ability to do physical assessments on location throughout South Georgia. "In some areas of rural Georgia you set up wherever you are and begin to provide assistance."
