Foreign films come to VSU
The Festival of Foreign Films, sponsored by Valdosta State
University Office of International Programs, will run throughout
the fall semester. Showings are at 8 p.m. in the University Center
Theater. A speaker will introduce each English language version
film and lead a brief discussion afterward. The films are from
countries in which VSU students can study abroad. Showings
include:
* "Bolshe Vita," Sept. 20, is about an odd group of young people
who meet in Budapest during Hungary's celebration of Communism's
fall. After an adventure of fun and romance, the group is forced to
separate as the Mafia gets closer. Ibolya Fekete directs the film.
Dr. Dennis Bogoya will be the speaker.
* "Harder They Come," Oct. 5, is about a country boy who comes to
the city to find fame in the music industry. After shooting a
police officer and becoming a fugitive, he receives notoriety.
Perry Henzell directs the film. Dr. Napoleon Bamfo will be the
speaker.
* "Educating Rita," Oct. 18, is about a young, British hairdresser
who hires a tutor to teach her classical literature. Ironically,
she teaches the professor how to make the most out of life. Lewis
Gilbert directs the film. Dr. Theresa Thompson will be the
speaker.
* "Days of Being Wild," Nov. 2, is about a group of young people
who develop a special bond. The film is set in Hong Kong in the
60's. Wong Kar-Wai directs the film. Professor Grady Lacy will be
the speaker.
* "Love Without Pity," Nov. 15, is about a Frenchman who has no
aspirations until he meets a beautiful graduate student. The
intense romance is set in Paris. Eric Rochant directs the film.
Professor Grady Lacy will be the speaker.
* "Shall We Dance," Nov. 30, is a Japanese comedy in which a
workaholic becomes obsessed with a beautiful dance instructor. His
life becomes interesting as he finds ways to get close to her.
Masayuki Suo directs the film. Dr. Matthew Richard is the
speaker.
