Carnevale heads VSU Mathematics and Computer Science Department

Dr. Thomas Carnevale was recently named head of the Valdosta State University Mathematics and Computer Science Department.

Carnevale comes to VSU from Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio, where he has served as a professor of mathematical sciences and department chairman since 1991.

"VSU is certainly a teaching university, and that's important to me," Carnevale said. "My goal is to continue to emphasize student preparedness in our department by emphasizing quality teaching in core courses, in service courses and in our major programs."

In addition to 31 years of teaching in the college setting, Carnevale has also worked in the corporate community. His business experience includes information systems positions with Codema Corp. in Richmond, Va., Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Virginia and Virginia Power.

Carnevale holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, N.Y., a master's degree in mathematics from Fordham University in New York, N.Y., and a doctorate in mathematics and operations research from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.
