Wright named VSU's new registrar
Gerald Wright was recently named Valdosta State University's new
registrar.
Among other assignments, he will supervise the daily operations of
the Office of the Registrar.
Wright comes to VSU from Dekalb College in Atlanta, where he served
most recently as college director for recruitment and retention. He
has been on staff at Dekalb College since 1973 and held a variety
of positions, including: veterans affairs coordinator, allied
health admissions counselor, director of admissions and records
(Dekalb's college registrar) and director of student support
services.
Prior to his work at Dekalb College, Wright worked in
rehabilitation counseling and served in the U.S. Army. He has also
been serving in the Air National Guard since 1979.
Now that he's onboard at Valdosta State, Wright said he wants to
continue to improve the "customer service" relationship between the
Office of the Registrar and the public. "The registrar's office is
the core for the flow of student information," Wright said. "We
want to have a helpful and friendly attitude as we provide solid
service for the university community and its students."
To those ends, Wright is planning an upgrade of the telephone
service into the Office of the Registrar, to make it easier for
callers to reach someone when they have a question. He is also
working to update and modernize the office's physical filing system
for student records.
Wright said he is very happy to be on the VSU campus and looks
forward to serving its students and staff. "Before I came here, I
had heard comments from students and parents saying how much they
like Valdosta State," he said. "I've always had a very favorable
impression of the university. I believe this is a quality
institution."
"We are very fortunate to have attracted Gerald Wright to be our
registrar," said Dr. Hugh C. Bailey, VSU president. "His extensive
experience and acquaintanceship with the University System of
Georgia will be a valuable asset to this institution."
Wright earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of
Georgia in 1968. He received his M.Ed. from UGA in 1971 and his
Ed.S. from Georgia State University in 1979.
