Our Online Box Office never closes. The in-person box office is open 2-5 PM, Mon-Fri.  The box office opens for walk-up sales (as seats remain available) 1 hour prior to announced start times immediately outside the theatre.

CANCELED: A Musical That We Can't Announce Here

The College of the Arts is deeply saddened to inform you that we must cancel our performances of Chicago, originally scheduled for October 31, - November 6, 2024.

As you know, Hurricane Helene caused our normal operations to halt for three weeks, which included the delay of set & costume construction and rehearsals. With the end of fall semester closing quickly, we are now in a place where we cannot reschedule the performance this academic year.

Our production that was the story of two 'killer-dillers' in the Windy City as they sing and dance from crime to courtroom to vaudeville.

It's not easy being the pigeon - you never get to do anything!  But when the bus driver has a crisis that threatens to make her passengers (gasp!) late maybe that wily bird can do something.

Spring Dances: EVOLVE

Spring Dances: EVOLVE is a collection of concert dance works and dance films created by VSU Dance Faculty and guest artists.  Dances will provoke, inspire, liberate, and leave audiences in awe as dances intertwine storytelling, abstract thought and superb artistry.

The concert will include the Georgia premiere of Evolution of Gaia, a collaboration between Ali Duffy (Texas Tech University and Flatlands Dance Theatre, composer Peter Fischer (Texas Tech University), and faculty choreographer/filmmaker Melissa Pihos.  This work will feature a large scale performance fusing original dance, live and recorded music, film and media.  The production tells the tale of Gaia, the personification of Earth.  Through a compelling story centered on human relationships and cultures, the production interweaves topics such as the destruction and regenerative capacity of Earth's natural landscapes and resources, environmental awareness and justice, cycles of birth and rebirth, and of conflict and resolution.

This production may contain mature themes and language.

 

Iphigenia 2.5

A modern adaptation of Iphigenia at Aulis by Euripides, Charles Mee’s Iphigenia 2.0 largely follows the plot of the original Greek text but removes the interference of the gods. Instead, Agamemnon’s own disillusioned troops are the ones to call for him to make the same sacrifice he has asked of their own mothers – namely the life of his child – to prove that the war with Troy that he has called for is a worthy one. So, when Agamemnon’s daughter arrives at the battle encampment, will it be for her wedding or her sacrifice?

Taking our cue from Mee’s own collage-like style of playwriting, our adaptation of Mee’s text will be revised by the students in our Devised Theatre class before it makes its way to Sawyer stage to close out our season.

Join us for the annual Spotlight Series as we shine a spotlight on our students and celebrate the work of our graduating seniors. Entertainment will include a wide variety of popular musical theatre numbers, original dance works by students in the choreography class, and captivating scene work from contemporary plays all featuring performances from our graduating seniors. This performance is not a ticketed event, but we encourage you to make a donation on line or at the door to help fund our Golden Circle Scholarship Fund which supports our Theatre & Dance students during their time here at Valdosta State University. Please consider giving any amount that you are able to help us continue to bring you the work of our very talented young artists in the years to come.

A few years ago, author Cheryl Strayed took over an anonymous advice column, Dear Sugar, for the literary website, The Rumpus.  As Sugar, she combined genuine transparency and empathy by inserting personal stories within her responses.  Her advice was illuminating rather than instruction.

Later, Strayed collected the stories into the book Tiny Beautiful Things which was published after her novel Wild appeared on bookshelves.  Both became bestsellers.

In the play, Sugar and the writers of the letters reveal themselves and we find ourselves in their conundrums and sorrows, in their lives lived and roads traveled.  Tiny Beautiful Things is a play about reaching when you are stuck, healing when you are broken, and finding the courage to take on the questions with no answers.

This production contains adult themes and language.
