This immersive and transformative exhibition will unravel the enigmatic process of creating art, turning the gallery into a dynamic project space over the course of the exhibition.
"FOUNDATIONS: Process" is an exploration of the creative journey, focusing not on the final works of art but on the raw, transformative journey that leads to them. The Maranville gallery will challenge the traditional art-viewing experience by inviting visitors to step behind the curtain and witness the magic of artistic genesis. “FOUNDATIONS: Process” brings together this semester’s art & design foundation classes, each of which has a unique challenge to explore. From 3D Design and Drawing I to Computers and Art and 2D Design, this exhibition celebrates the excitement of the artistic process in all its intricate, messy, and glorious forms. Spanning over two weeks, the exhibition will gradually transform the gallery into a dynamic project space. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to watch artists at work, immerse themselves in the creative process, and engage in mini challenges of exploration themselves. The gallery will evolve in real-time, with walls and spaces continually being reimagined and redefined, mirroring the ever-evolving nature of artistry. This is a chance to witness the vulnerability and perseverance required of a first-year art student, their moments of doubt, and their creative success. " FOUNDATIONS: Process" promises to be an intimate and unfiltered look at what it means to be a first-year art student in the Department of Art & Design at VSU.
In addition to the ever-changing space, the gallery will host a series of workshops, interactive installations, and discussions that invite visitors to become active participants in the creative process. This exhibition transcends the traditional notion of art as a static entity, inviting you to be part of the journey.
