The Student Success Portal provides an interactive dashboard, student profiles and messaging tools for faculty, advisors and student support staff to easily assess student performance and risk indicators that may contribute to or hinder students from being successful in their programs. It combines early alert flagging with predictive analytics to track and improve student performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What will I see when I log into the portal?

Your access to sections within the portal depends on your primary role at the university. Nonetheless, the dashboard is the first screen you will see once you log in regardless of your role.

  • If you are a faculty member only, or if you are a staff member who also has a part-time faculty role, you will see the following sections: Home, Course, Enter Notes and Resources.
  • If you are a staff member only and do not teach courses or advise students, you will see the following sections: Home, Enter Notes and Resources.
  • If you are an advisor only, you will see the following sections: Home, Advisor, Enter Notes, Early Alerts and Resources.
  • If you have both faculty and advising roles, you will see the following sections: Home, Advisor, Enter Notes, Early Alerts and Resources.

Who can see when I flag a student? Add notes?

The flags and notes you enter for a student are visible to the student’s academic advisor.

Who else has access to the information provided within the portal?

While individual student information is only visible to the person who enters student information and a student's advisor, data from the portal can be pulled at times to generate reports for faculty, staff and university administration.

Disclaimer: All Staff and Faculty users having access to information should review statutory requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), University policy and confidentiality of student information. As part of your duties and responsibilities as an employee of VSU, you have access to student and/or employee information. Access to this system includes the responsibility for maintaining the privacy of data. Any questions concerning access or release of student academic information should be referred to the Registrar's Office, 333-5729.

How does the portal differ from other platforms such as Banner?

While the portal offers some of the same features as popular resources like Banner and DegreeWorks, this solution serves as a platform for developing early intervention strategies and streamlining communication between faculty and student support staff in an effort to retain students. The portal tracks the progress of a student from semester to semester and provides faculty and staff with reports that help them assess a student's likelihood of being successful and, ultimately, graduating.

Is there any way to customize my reports in the Success Portal?

The Success Portal, like several other Valdosta State University applications, leverages a system called Interactive Reports to allow users to customize their reports. Our Interactive Reports User Guide provides an overview of its key features.
