Resident Assistant 

Resident Assistants (RA) are paraprofessionals who live in the Residence Halls and build community in order to provide safety and security for the residents of the halls. By providing a peer-to-peer resource relationship, it is the responsibility of the RA to connect with students to ensure their academic and personal success during their stay in the Residence Halls.

Housing Engagement Action Response Team (Heart)

To provide a 24/7 service response team, the HEART program consists of student workers that serve in three key roles:  Front Desk Worker, Main Worker, and Support Sector.  All positions within HEART are interchangeable so candidates who apply will be filling one or more of these roles.

  • Front Desk Worker – assigned to a residence hall front desk and is responsible for working closely with other Front Desk and HEART workers, Resident Assistants, the Residence Hall Directors, and Housing Professional Staff in developing and maintaining a safe and secure atmosphere in the residence halls.  This includes assisting in the development of a safe environment that meets the needs of a positive Residence Life program. 
  • Main Worker – assigned to the main housing office, Main workers field calls and provide great customer service to residents in need of assistance.  Main workers field all resident concerns and dispatch the appropriate staff members to assist.  Some resident needs include, but are not limited to lockouts, emergency maintenance concerns, quiet/courtesy hours, or interpersonal conflict. 
  • Support Sector – support sector reports to the main housing office but serves as the dispatch role to help residents in need of assistance with instances such as lockouts, emergency maintenance concerns, quiet/courtesy hours, interpersonal conflict, and more.
Candidates applying for a position on HEART will need to be available to fulfill at least 12 hours per week at $7.25/hr.  This will consist of business hours, some night hours (8 PM – 8 AM), and some weekend responsibilities.

Resource Room Assistant

The Resource Room is a creative space where all Housing Events, Door decorations, bulletin boards, and general craft needs are met. Our Resource Room Assistants student staff are creative, innovative, and (of course) resourceful. It is supervised by the Associate Director of Residence Life and Residential Education Graduate Assistant who provides direction and insight into the comings and goings of the space. The Resource Room is Open on in the Fall and Spring Semesters.

Housing Ambassador

The Department of Housing and Residence Life employs approximately 3 to 4 Housing Ambassadors who are responsible for tours of housing facilities and special events for marketing on-campus housing. Candidates for the Matchmaker position should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge or willingness to learn about VSU and the Department of Housing and Residence Life, and are able to effectively and positively represent the on-campus living experience. Candidates who are currently living on campus or who have lived on campus are preferred. Typically, new Housing Ambassadors are hired each summer as needed.

Facilities Assistant

Housing Facilities Assistant works through the summer and into the opening on preparing the Residence Halls after students vacate. Housing Facilities Assistants should be willing to lift and move furniture, assist with event set up and break down within the residence halls, and clean, paint, and repair rooms where necessary. All appointments will last through the summer and will be renewed for the fall based on availability and budget.
