Volunteer Services & OpportunitiesThe mission of Valdosta State University’s Volunteer Services is to cultivate civic responsibility as an essential part of a student’s development as a global citizen in our increasingly diverse society. Volunteer Services promotes and facilitates this development by providing opportunities to build community partnerships through a variety of service opportunities, including community service and outreach.
We seek to operationalize this mission by offering the following programs and initiatives:
Blazer Creed Days of Service, service opportunities based on our Blazer Creed.
Drop-N-Shop, a free store of non-perishable food and professional attire for VSU students in need. Located on the 1st floor of our Student Union. Check out the Drop-N-Shop tab to get more information about how you can access this resource! Student Organizations can also host food drives for the Drop-N-Shop.
Blood Drives, which are held at least once a month are a great way to do great service and save a life. Students who participate in donating blood are eligible for 3 service hours and we’re always looking for students to volunteer their time working the blood drives. If your student organization is interested in hosting a blood drive, email Student Leadership & Volunteer Services at firstname.lastname@example.org
Holiday Helper, held every November and December, gives VSU’s students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to help community members by donating gifts to designated community agencies like the Children’s Advocacy Center of Lowndes County and Project Light of BHSSG. We were fortunate to grant over 100 children their wishes for gifts this past holiday season!
Give and Go Program, a program sponsored by the Sociology Department and Housing and Residence Life, where students can donate usable items instead of throwing them away! The Give and GO Program is held every May during the last week of school. Students don’t have to throw away their gently used residence hall items. We accept a wide range of items, from laundry detergent to sheet sets to canned goods and clothing. The only thing we don’t accept are mattress pads!
