What does Blaze the Ballot do?

Hello Blazers! The 2022 Midterms are right around the corner, and Student Diversity and Inclusion is excited to add the Motivote platform to their nonpartisan Blaze the Ballot program, to help our campus community get ready to vote.

For many would-be voters, life’s little barriers such as missed deadlines and busy schedules get in the way. Motivote is a digital tool that breaks down the process into bite-sized steps to make the process more fun and social. When Motivote users complete simple actions, they accumulate points which can be turned in for prizes! We believe merging our existing efforts with Motivote will help improve our effort to increase student voter turnout here at VSU! Voters get ready to vote with friends, get automated reminders, and win real-life rewards. (It’s 100% focused on the behavior of voting, not who you vote for.) Click this link to get started!

UNDERSTANDING YOUR BALLOT.

You can view your sample ballot by going to the Georgia Secretary of State's My Voter Page website. Here's how:

1. Open an internet browser and go to www.mvp.sos.ga.gov

2. Under "MVP Login" type in the first letter of your first name, your last name, select the county where you live, and input your date of birth. Click Submit.

 - If at this point if you get a page saying that your registration cannot be found, go back and ensure that you entered all of your information above correctly. If you did and you're still told that your information can't be located, then you may not be registered to vote. You can contact your County Elections Office to double-check. If you need to re-register to vote, you can do so by clicking here.

3. Under the "Voter Information" section, you will see a link that says "Click Here for Sample Ballots". Note that this link only becomes active near an Election Day. If you don't see the link, the State probably has not yet produced ballots for that election period.

4.  After you click the link, you will see your sample ballot. It will look similar to the image above. All of the elected offices and ballot initiatives that you're eligible to vote for will show in your sample ballot.

While you're looking at your registration information, be sure to verify that your address is correct, that your registration status is "Active", and make sure your polling location hasn't changed.

ABSENTEE BALLOT VOTING.

Absentee Ballots are the mechanism used to cast your vote in your location of permanent residency. This type of ballot is a vote-by-mail ballot. You must contact your state to apply for an absentee ballot application, fill it out and return it by your state's deadline. Vote. org is a great site to learn more about the absentee ballot process for your state. Below are links and topics for your review.

DON’T JUST VOTE, VOLUNTEER.

Voting is an essential part of BLAZE the Ballot, but volunteering is just as important. Volunteer poll workers are paid. Working the poll here on campus will help us keep it open to accommodate our student voters! Please use the link below to volunteer
