*The Dance Major Experience is open to all high school students! You do not have to be auditioning for the program to attend.

Please email swarnett@valdosta.edu for any questions.

See the schedule below from prior events - an updated schedule will be posted by October, tentative and subject to change!

Virtual & Off Campus Unified Auditions

If you can not attend these on-campus auditions, you may submit virtual auditions for Fall 2025 admission via getacceptd.com.  Candidates seeking scholarship consideration, that information is also in the Valdosta State University profile on getacceptd.com.

Valdosta State University participates in the virtual audition submissions through Regional Dance America. For more information, please visit their website: https://regionaldanceamerica.org/

Valdosta State University will have representatives on-site at college fairs and combined auditions:

  • Patel Conservatory College Fair - September 29, 2024 (Tampa, FL)
  • Douglas Anderson School of the Arts - September 30 - October 2, 2024 (Jacksonville, FL)

Virtual Submission Option:
At this time, we are accepting video audition submissions from all prospective students. Applications are available now for 2025-2026 admission! Applicants may find all information at https://app.getacceptd.com/valdostastate

Our virtual audition process is that you will submit a video with 1-2 minutes in each of the following areas of dancing:
  • A demonstration of Ballet or Technical Dance Work
  • A Modern or Contemporary Combination
  • A Jazz or Commercial Dance Combination
*If you have other areas of dance you would like to share, you are welcome to add to your video. Applicants are responsible for choreographing their own audition materials or working with their current instructor/choreographer to present their audition materials.
The audition allows the faculty to observe your technical ability, performance quality, potential and adaptability to the change in dance styles. Please do not worry if you are weak in some of the areas, for we will be looking at you from an overall viewpoint. Please limit your video to a maximum of 6 minutes. Deadline for Fall 2025 admission is May 1, 2025.

Students who are interested in applying for a Dance Program Scholarship will need to submit an additional writing sample (~500 words) or video (3-6 minutes) that addresses the following:
  1. Your interest/decision to major in dance for your college career.
  2. Why you are interested in VSU's dance program, specifically.
  3. Your future career interests and plans.

This sample should be emailed directly to swarnett@valdosta.edu after submitting your GetAcceptd application.

Auditions for Current Students:

Students who are currently enrolled at VSU and wish to change their major to dance must audition for the program. These auditions happen in person in the fall of each year (Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 6-8pm) or the student may participate in the Dance Major Experience auditions on November 4, 2024 or February 17, 2025 if their class schedule allows. Students unable to attend a live audition may submit a video audition directly to Professor Arnett at swarnett@valdosta.edu using the same requirements as the GetAcceptd Video Submissions above. Students may submit this video at any time throughout the year. Current students should submit the following form to reserve their audition slot or submit a virtual audition: Current Student Audition Application

Admission Audition Results

We will notify all students of the results by email. This will usually happen within one month of the audition submission. Those applying for scholarships will also receive notification of their scholarship status by email. In addition, you may expect to be notified with one of these possible decisions:

  • Accepted: You may begin course work as a dance major.
  • Not Accepted: An indication that we feel you will not be successful in our dance curriculum at this time. After matriculating at VSU feel free to participate in dance courses in preparation to audition for admission to the degree program at a later date.

Scholarship Auditions
