The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) is the largest and oldest source of commissioned officers for the Air Force.  It is designed to recruit, educate and commission officer candidates through college campus programs.  In other words, Air Force ROTC is an educational program designed to provide you an opportunity to become an Air Force officer while you complete your bachelor's or master's degree.  You can enroll in Air Force ROTC classes at the same time and in the same manner as other college courses.  Completion of our classes may count towards elective credits, while completion of our full four-year academic program can result in a minor in Aerospace Studies.

Here at Detachment 172, we are one of three AFROTC programs in Georgia and often rival the largest in cadet corps size.  Our robust program is conveniently located 20 minutes from Moody Air Force Base, where our cadets are able to participate in cadet shadow programs with base personnel, incentive flights in Air Force aircraft and deployment exercises in partnership with Moody's base defense personnel.  Additionally, incoming AFROTC freshmen have the opportunity to be apart of VSU's First-Year Learning Community, where you can live with other cadets and take specialized courses designed to help you succeed in AFROTC.
