Georgia's HOPE Scholarship is available to Georgia residents who have demonstrated academic achievement. The scholarship provides money to assist students with their educational costs of attending a HOPE eligible college in Georgia.  To learn more about the HOPE Scholarship Program, visit www.GAfutures.org.

ZELL MILLER HOPE SCHOLARSHIP

Georgia's Zell Miller HOPE Scholarship is available to Georgia residents who have demonstrated superior academic achievement. The scholarship provides money to assist students with their educational costs of attending a HOPE eligible college in Georgia.  To learn more about the Zell Miller HOPE Scholarship Program, visit www.GAfutures.org.

Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of Georgia Scholarship

Full tuition awarded throughout the State of Georgia on a rotating basis. Must be a Georgia resident, undergraduate with superior academic achievement, good citizenship and financial need.

Ty Cobb Scholarship

Awarded annually to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  To qualify, one must be a Georgia resident, demonstrate financial need, and possess at least a “B” average.

Lee M. Bennett Art Scholarship

VSU students majoring in art, who meet certain criteria are eligible to apply for this scholarship, created by Mrs. Bennett’s will.

Wesley Ren Christie Scholarship

This scholarship is provided for communication arts majors. High school seniors must have a combined SAT score of at least 1100.  Applicants for this scholarship will be chosen on the basis of SAT or ACT scores, the academic average and standing in high school or junior college, and an original essay.

Elene D. Dorminy Scholarship

Scholarship funds are provided by the John Henry Dorminy Foundation. Awarded annually to an undergraduate music major, based on musical ability and potential.  Recipients are selected by the Department of Music on the basis of audition.

This scholarship is awarded to theatre majors based on a combination of academic achievement and audition or portfolio presentation.

Tammy Lee Fortner Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was created to honor the memory of Tammy Lee Fortner by her parents and family. The scholarship is available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors majoring in art. It is renewable. The scholarship will be awarded based upon a combination of need and academic merit, and recipients are selected by the Department of Art & Design Scholarship Committee.

Bernard L. Linger Memorial Fine Arts Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was created to honor the memory of Bernard L. Linger and is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in music, art,or communication arts. The recipient must have carried a minimum of fifteen (15) credit hours per semester during the year prior to application and must have maintained an overall 3.5 grade point average. This scholarship is renewable for up to three years if the student maintains a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and continues to major in music, art, or communication arts.

Ola Lee Means Scholarship

This non-renewable scholarship is offered to outstanding students in the field of English and those enrolled in a program in the College of the Arts. In even numbered years, the award will be made to a student majoring in English. In the odd numbered years, the award will be made to a student enrolled in a College of the Arts major of study. Recipients are selected by the appropriate college or department.

Louise Sawyer Theatre Scholarship

This scholarship fund established in memory of Louise Sawyer is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in theatre arts. Recipients are selected by the Department of Theatre Arts.

Lucy Martin Stewart Scholarship

Awarded each year to a vocal music major. Selection is made solely on promise as a performer. Recipients are selected by the Department of Music on the basis of audition.

Belk-Hudson Management Scholarship

This endowed scholarship provided by Belk-Hudson of Valdosta, awarded to an outstanding management major, is renewable if the student maintains a 2.75 grade point average and is making satisfactory progress toward completion of the B.B.A. degree. Recipients are selected by the College of Business Administration.

Citizens Community Bank Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded based on student recommendations by the Dean of the College of Business Administration. Minimum requirements include an SAT score of 1000 or higher and a high school grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. A current FAFSA should be on file at the Office of Financial Aid.

James L. Dewar, Sr. — Park Avenue Bank Scholarship

Created in honor of Mr. Dewar, Sr., this scholarship invites applications from students who graduated from a Lowndes County school and majoring in Business Administration.

John Henry Dorminy Scholarship

This scholarship is provided by the Dorminy Trust Fund. Incoming freshmen at VSU who will be majoring in the College of Business Administration are eligible. This scholarship is renewable for up to three years if the student maintains a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher.

Georgia Gulf Sulfur Business—Athlete Scholarship

This scholarship established by the Georgia Gulf Sulfur Corporation to recognize outstanding performance in the classroom and the field of competition is awarded to an incoming freshman at Valdosta State University,  majoring in a College of Business discipline, and participating in one of VSU’s intercollegiate athletic teams. A minimum 950 SAT is required, and the scholarship can be renewable up to three additional years if the student maintains a minimum 2.5 grade point average, continues to pursue a College of Business degree program, and continues to participate in one of VSU’s intercollegiate athletic sports.

Bank of America Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded based on recommendations by the Dean of the College of Business Administration.  Preferences are given to business majors. Must be in good academic standing.

This scholarship is awarded based on student recommendations by the Dean of the College of Business Administration. Preferences are given to business administration majors. Must be in good academic standing.

Steele Scholarship

The premier scholarship of the Harley Langdale, Jr. College of Business Administration, this endowed scholarship was created in 2002 to honor the memory of Rea and Lillian Steele. Steele Scholarships are awarded annually to outstanding incoming freshmen and transfer students majoring in one of five business disciplines. Minimum requirements for consideration include an SAT score of 1240 and a high school or transfer grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. Involvement in activities, leadership, service to the community and financial need (must have a FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Aid) are also considered. A Steele Scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years for recipients maintaining a 3.25 average while continuing to pursue a B.B.A. degree. Recipients are selected by the College of Business Administration.

Gail Aberson Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was created to honor the memory of Gail Aberson, to assist teachers at the graduate level in their professional development/certification as Teacher Support Specialists (Mentors) and science teachers K-12. The award will provide assistance to teachers from member school systems in the Okefenokee RESA.

Ola M. Brown Minority Scholarship

This endowed scholarship designated for a minority student majoring in Education is available to a student with good academic standing and demonstrated financial need (must have a FAFSA application on file with the Office of Financial Aid). Selection will be determined by the College of Education Scholarship Committee.

Mattie H. Dewar Scholarship

This annual endowed scholarship was created to honor the memory of Mattie Hendry Dewar by her family members. The scholarship is awarded to students pursing service occupations in the primary fields of education, welfare and religious activities.

Vicky Lynne Foshee Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was created to honor the memory of Vicky Lynne Foshee, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Donald P. Foshee. The scholarship is to be awarded to a graduate student enrolled in the industrial/Organizational Psychology program.  Completing at least 10 hours per semester with a “B” or better grade point average may renew it.

A.B. “Sonny” Martin Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded based on recommendations by the College of Education Scholarship Committee. Students must be pursuing a masters of education degree. Based on ability and promise.

Catherine Hensley McDonald Memorial Scholarship

The members of the Valdosta Junior Service League established this scholarship in memory of Catherine Hensley McDonald. The scholarship is available to students majoring in the Business-Vocational Education program, who have a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and have demonstrated financial need (must have a FAFSA application on file with the Office of Financial Aid). The scholarship is renewable for one year if the recipient maintains the 2.5 grade point average. Selection is made by the College of Education Scholarship Committee.

Saralyn Sammons Scholarship

The Saralyn Sammons Scholarship was established to honor Miss Sammons, a member of the Vocational Education faculty for 26 years. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed 30 hours at VSU, has a minimum 3.0 grade point average, and has demonstrated financial need (must have a FASFA application on file with the Office of Financial Aid). Recommendations for this scholarship are made by the Department of Adult and Career Education.

Elizabeth Darlene Sikes Scholarship

This scholarship was established to recognize an outstanding graduate student in Communication Disorders. Based on continuous community service, good academic standing and financial need. Must provide 2 letters of support.

Speech and Hearing Scholarship

The members of the Valdosta Junior Service League have established this scholarship for a student majoring in Communication Disorders, who has completed 50 semester hours, has a minimum 2.5 grade point average, and has demonstrated financial need (must have a FAFSA application on file with the Office of Financial Aid).

This annual scholarship was established by Jimmy ’65 & Quay Allen of Tifton, in honor of Mrs. Allen’s parents, to recognize an outstanding student in the College of Education. The College of Education selects recipients.

This annual endowed scholarship is available to undergraduates and graduates based on a combination of academic achievement and financial need. The scholarship was established to promote interest in the study of Sociology at VSU. Recipients are chosen by the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice.

Harold S. Gulliver, Sr. Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was created to honor the memory of Harold S. Gulliver, Sr. The scholarship is based on academic ability and financial need. Preference will be given to English and humanities majors.

Lee Anthony Crews Scholarship

The criminal justice Lee Anthony Crews scholarship is awarded in the loving memory of his family in remembrance of his line of duty death as a Valdosta, GA law enforcement officer. The Crews family seeks local applicants to award $1,000 to needing and deserving criminal justice major students (3 scholarships will be awarded) who meet the following criteria: Must be a CJ major & have completed 60 hours minimum; have an established 3.0 GPA; be from Lowndes, Echols, Cook, or Brooks counties (only); submit a 500 word essay, demonstrating need for the funding and describe their goals once they graduate with the degree in Criminal Justice; submit a current resume; submit at least 2 signed letters of support, and be available (barring a class) to assist in the golf tournament in the Fall.

Please submit a typed packet of all of the information which contains the above referenced materials to the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice. Do not email the documents. Also contact the department for the application deadline. Recipients of the award will be notified after the committee reviews the applications.

Jeffrey K Cutchens Scholarship for Criminal Justice Majors

Awards will be made annually based on the following criteria:

a) $1000 scholarship awarded annually to be divided between Fall semester and Spring
semester
b) awarded to a Junior, Senior or Graduate student majoring in Criminal Justice
c) student to have maintained a B average
d) the scholarship will be awarded to a student who resides(ed) in either the Southern
Judicial Circuit counties (Lowndes, Brooks, Thomas, Colquitt, Echols) or the Alapaha Judicial Circuit counties (Berrien, Cook, Lanier, Clinch, Atkinson)
e) awarding of the scholarship will alternate annually between the two judicial circuits if
viable candidates are eligible.

One scholarship is offered each year from funds provided in memory of Virginia McCraw Gaskins. Preference is given to students who are pursuing a course of study leading to a degree in nursing.

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate female students of Christian religious affiliation who are in good academic standing, residing in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia. Scholarships are available to students enrolled in ROTC at VSU and are based on performance, academic achievement and leadership potential.

Beth Burnette Scholarship

This endowed scholarship is created to honor the memory of Beth Burnette. The scholarship is available to students who are graduates of Valdosta High School. Recipients will be selected based upon a combination of financial need (must have a FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Aid) and academic merit. The scholarship is renewable for three years.

Paul A. Burnette Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship established in memory of Paul A. Burnette, by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Burnette, awarded annually to a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Louise S. Chastain Scholarship

This fund was established by Mrs. Chastain for students pursuing a Masters in Social Work. Preference is given to residents of Thomas County, Georgia.

Griffin L.L.C. Scholarship

This endowed scholarship assists the dependent child of a Griffin Associate. Incoming freshmen, as well as students enrolled at VSU, with a Griffin employed parent, are eligible for this scholarship. This scholarship is renewable if the student maintains a 15 credit hour enrollment at VSU, a 2.0 grade point average, is making satisfactory progress toward a degree, and the parent is maintaining employment with the Griffin Corporation.

Applications are available with the Griffin Corporation Human Resources Department, and are due April 1.

Dr. Joseph A. and Hazel Durrenberger Scholarship

This endowed scholarship is available to deserving undergraduate students, with preference given to those who are considered non-traditional, having reached the age of 25, maintaining a 2.5 grade point average, and enrolled full-time. This scholarship is renewable.

Sallie Hutchinson Scholarship

This scholarship is available to deserving undergraduate students, with preference given to female students who permanently reside in one of the following counties: Berrien, Cook, Lowndes, Thomas or Brooks. This scholarship is renewable.

Lorene Joiner Memorial Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. John W. Thomas, in memory of Mrs. Thomas’ mother, Lorene Joiner. The scholarship is intended to benefit students with demonstrated financial need (must have a FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Aid).

Clare Philips Martin Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student currently enrolled at VSU who has completed no less than 60 semester hours at VSU with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. To qualify, a student must have demonstrated intellectual growth and leadership through involvement in clubs, organizations, projects, and work experience while in college. This award is  presented during the University Honors Day Program, during spring semester. The deadline for application is March 1.

Paul Scott Marty Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was created to honor the memory of Paul Scott Marty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Marty. The recipient must be an Air Force ROTC cadet who will be entering the junior year and will not be receiving the Air Force ROTC Scholarship.

The ROTC Detachment 172 will distribute and receive applications. For further information, contact the VSU Air Force ROTC.

VSU Minority Alumni Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the VSU Minority Alumni Association. The scholarship is awarded to students in good academic standing and with demonstrated financial need (must have a FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Aid). The recipient(s) will be selected by the VSU Minority Alumni Association.

Roy L. “Butch” Pierce Scholarship

Awarded each year based on academic excellence and financial need. May be renewed. Preference given to residents of Seminole County, Georgia, and the surrounding area.

Walter R. and Dorothy S. Salter Scholarship

This fund provides scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled in a pre-medical program of study. The trustee of the estate of Mrs. Salter selects recipients. Students must be enrolled full-time, have a 3.0 grade point average, be a declared pre-med major having completed two major level courses in both chemistry and biology (4 courses).

Barbara Pearlman Sosnik Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was created by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pearlman, to honor the memory of their daughter. To be awarded to deserving students with demonstrated financial need (must have a FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Aid).

Awarded to a junior transfer student. Based on academic excellence and financial need (must have a FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Aid). May be renewed for the senior year. Preference given to residents of Suwannee County, Florida.

Georgia Gulf Sulfur Athletic Scholarships

These scholarships were established to assist academically and athletically talented students who are members of the VSU basketball teams.

Selection is made by the coaching staffs of the basketball programs.

Billy Grant Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Billy Grant, for his many contributions to the VSU athletics program. The scholarship is awarded to a member of the VSU golf team.

Based on recommendations from the golf coach and athletic director.

Jesse F. Tuggle Scholarship

The Jesse F. Tuggle Scholarship was established as an endowed scholarship, to assist members of the VSU football team. Recipients of the scholarship must be in good academic standing.

Selection is determined by the football coaching staff. 

Barbara Talley Griffin Need Based Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was donated by Rusty and Barbara Griffin.  Awarded annually, selected students must have a minimum ACT of 24 or equivalent SAT score if entering as a freshman or a college GPA of at least a 2.75 if transferring to VSU.  Preference will be given to the students from Lowndes County or contiguous counties.

Selection is determined by the Office of Enrollment Management in conjunction with the Office of Financial Aid.
