To be considered for any grant at VSU, students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have the results sent to the VSU Office of Financial Aid. Information provided on the FAFSA should be complete and accurate. Failure to resolve any application-processing problems, or delays in resolving the problems, may prevent students from being considered for a grant.

Grants are not automatically renewed. Students must apply annually and continue to meet eligibility requirements and satisfactory academic progress standards.

Federal Pell Grant Program is for undergraduate students working toward a first undergraduate degree. The amount of the grant is determined by:

  • Enrollment/Enrollment Intensity Percentage (hours enrolled and percentage of Pell Received)

Beginning Fall 2024:

Through Summer Semester 2024:

  • 12 or more credit hours(full-time), you will receive your full eligibility.
  • 9 to 11 credit hours, you will receive three-fourths of your eligibility.
  • 6 to 8 credit hours, you will receive one-half of your eligibility.
  • 5 or less credit hours, you may be eligible for approximately one-quarter of your eligibility each semester.

If Pell Grant eligibility for the coming school year is less than $850.00 and you plan to enroll for less than half-time, contact the Office of Financial Aid to determine Pell Grant eligibility. VSU freezes enrollment to determine Pell Grant eligibility at the time of initial disbursement. After disbursement is made, no adjustments can be made for enrollment changes (i.e. courses added for later sessions within a term).

If you are eligible to receive it, Pell is now available for all semesters.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is for undergraduate students. Eligibility is based on Established Financial Need, and funding is limited to students with Federal Pell Grant eligibility.
