Kamari Lynette Logan of Lake Park, Georgia, is the recipient of the Fall 2020 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Valdosta State University. She graduates summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing on Dec. 14.

VALDOSTA — Kamari Lynette Logan of Lake Park, Georgia, is the recipient of the Fall 2020 President’s Award for Academic Excellence for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Valdosta State University.

The President’s Award for Academic Excellence is presented to the graduating student with the highest grade point average in each of VSU’s six colleges — Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, College of the Arts, James L. and Dorothy H. Dewar College of Education and Human Services, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and College of Science and Mathematics.

Logan will be recognized during VSU’s 230th Commencement at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. She will graduate summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

“There is only one word that truly expresses what it means to be deemed the top graduate of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences — blessed,” she said. “The past two years have pushed me to my limits mentally and physically, and I worried more often than not if my efforts would be worth the stress in the end, but this recognition proves otherwise. All of my efforts have finally paid off in more ways than I could have ever imagined. My friends, family, nursing faculty, clinical mentors, and so many other loved ones always believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. I am ever so grateful to have such a faithful, caring support group always cheering me on to strive for the best. This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. I finally made it.”

As a student at VSU, Logan was a member of Sigma Alpha Pi: The National Society of Leadership and Success, Sigma (formerly known as Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing), The National Student Nurses’ Association, and Georgia Association of Nursing Students. She served as president of the Valdosta Association of Nursing Students, where she completed more than 50 hours of community service. Just before graduation, she joined VSU’s 1906 Society, a giving organization dedicated to the continued growth and development of VSU.

Logan was selected to participate in the Fall 2019 Evidence-Based Practice Poster Presentation sponsored by VSU and South Georgia Medical Center, where she presented her research on “The Relationship Between Emotional Support and Nurse Burnout Following an Adverse Event.”

Logan’s commitment to academic, research, and service excellence resulted in her earning repeated Dean’s List honors, as well as the Spring 2019, Fall 2019, Spring 2020, and Fall 2020 Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation Inc. Scholarship, the Fall 2019 Georgia Power Foundation Student Recruitment and Retention Fund Scholarship, and the Fall 2019 Colquitt Electric Membership Corporation Scholarship.

Logan plans to work as a critical care nurse in a hospital setting after graduation and to eventually return to school to pursue a master’s degree in forensic nursing. She is the daughter of Karmell Logan and Lucious Leonard. She said she would not be where she is today without the constant love and support of her parents.
