Celebrating American Values
The Valdosta State University chapter of Students In Free
Enterprise (SIFE) is teaching West Gordon Elementary school
children about American values. The ?Celebrate American Values?
program kicked off on Oct. 31 and will continue on Nov. 4, 7 and
11, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
SIFE students will teach lessons dealing with free enterprise; the
Constitution and Bill of Rights; the history of the American flag,
the Liberty Bell and other national symbols; and the responsibility
of American citizens.
The curriculum has been developed and written by SIFE students in
an effort to provide a fun and educational way to teach school
children about the meaning of being an American.
Students will have the opportunity to write an essay titled ?What
does it mean to be free?? and participate in an art contest
featuring one of their favorite American national symbol, that
represents American values. Awards for the best essay and artwork
for each grade will be presented on Nov. 15 at 1:30 p.m., during a
special ceremony at West Gordon Elementary.
