The Valdosta State University Anthropology Club has partnered with Lowndes Citizens Against Data Centers to present a free screening of “Ghost in the Machine” Monday, Sept. 21, in the Student Union Theater on Main Campus.

Meet Jay Johnson, Recipient of VSU’s 2026 Presidential Excellence Award for Staff
Dr. Donald J. Green, president of Valdosta State University, has honored Jay Johnson with the 2026 Presidential Excellence Award for Classified Staff. He joined the VSU staff in Fall 2017 and currently serves as head athletic trainer for VSU Athletics, where he is responsible for all aspects of student-athlete healthcare.

Meet Dr. Karen Acosta, Recipient of VSU’s 2026 Presidential Excellence Award for Online Teaching
Dr. Donald J. Green, president of Valdosta State University, has honored Dr. Karen Acosta with the 2026 Presidential Excellence Award for Online Teaching. She joined the faculty of VSU’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences in Fall 2013 and currently serves as a professor of Spanish in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages.

Dr. Donald J. Green, president of Valdosta State University, has honored Dr. Amy Watson with the 2026 Presidential Excellence Award for Teaching. She joined the VSU faculty in 2020 and currently serves as associate professor of marketing in the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business Administration.

Dr. Ellis Heath, professor of economics and head of the Department of Economics and Finance at Valdosta State University, recently presented a macroeconomic outlook to peanut industry leaders during the 2026 Pre-Harvest Meeting of the American Peanut Shellers Association and National Peanut Buying Points Association in Leesburg, Georgia.

The Department of Political Science and the Working Group on Conflict and Security at Valdosta State University will host “25 Years Later: The 9/11 Attacks Then and Now” from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in Converse Hall Auditorium. This event is open to the public.
