For students declaring a major in one of the teacher education programs, there are several requirements to consider prior to beginning the education program:

Teacher Education Requirements

  • The student must have:

            -   a major leading to teacher certification.

            -   earned at least 36 semester hours.

            -   earned an overall GPA of 2.75 (for all course work) for all majors.

            -   successful completion of all components in the appropriate "2999" course.

Initial Certification Students (for MAT students)

  • Students who have already earned a bachelor's degree and are interested in obtaining teacher certification must meet all of the requirements for admission to teacher education (listed above) and enroll in a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program. All students seeking initial certification must pass the GACE Content Assessments for their teaching area(s).
