VSU Remains Closed, Will Resume Normal Operations at 8 a.m. Saturday

Due to damage sustained when Hurricane Hermine passed through the area last night and this morning, Valdosta State University will remain closed until 8 a.m. Saturday.  Georgia Power crews continue to work to restore power to the different buildings on campus.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. today, Palms Dining will be serving meals at the University Center Food Court to on-campus students who want to get out of their residence halls and enjoy a bite to eat in an air conditioned area. Food will be served until 9 p.m. Students will have an opportunity to charge their cell phones and are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to call home and check in. The University Center will remain open until 10 p.m.

Residence halls will continue to remain open and staffed. Palms Dining will resume normal operations on Saturday.

Supervisors will continue to notify any essential personnel required to report to work during the closure period.

The university will resume normal operations at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Odum Library and the Student Recreation Center will reopen at noon. Activities scheduled for this weekend will continue as planned. This includes the VSU Blazers versus the Albany State Rams football game at 7 p.m. on Saturday and the VSU Blazers versus the Auburn University at Montgomery Warhawks soccer game at 5 p.m. on Sunday, as well as all pre-game festivities.

Classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 6, following the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Please follow Valdosta State News on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with the latest updates. Information will also be sent to students, faculty, and staff via email and through the Campus Alert System, as appropriate.
